Version Control Discussion

A quick overview of what’s out there. Hopefully we can make it more of a discussion about the pro/cons of each and answer some questions or give examples (as I don’t/won’t have anything prepared in a talk+slides format)

Quick list:

  • CVS: http://www.nongnu.org/cvs/
  • SVN: http://subversion.tigris.org
  • BitKeeper: http://www.bitkeeper.com
  • Bazaar: http://bazaar-vcs.org/
  • Mercurial: http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/
  • Monotone: http://www.monotone.ca/
  • Git: http://git.or.cz/

others

I haven’t used any of the other systems mentioned but I’d like to learn about them :)

darcs only interests me now because Identi.ca is using it, but I can’t see any technical reasons to run it.

The best distributed VCS?

I would love to hear about what is the best distributed VCS, in particular.

Interested

Sounds good. Beyond the ones you mentioned, I have experience with ClearCase and AccuRev, as well as passing familiarity with Perforce and Arch, and would be happy to contribute advantages/disadvantages of those systems.

Saturday afternoon please?
